Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God;
For I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.
-Psalm 43:5
Occasionally you may experience spiritual dry spells, which can be precipitated by the loss of a loved one, a personal defeat, or any number of adverse circumstances. During those uncomfortable, barren times, it often becomes difficult to pray. God may seem like a vague idea to you than a living reality.
This is not an unusual occurrence. Many heroes of the faith experienced loss of direction and had their faith tested. Even David was afflicted by depressions brought on by treachery, betrayals, adversaries, and his own sins. Persist in prayer.
God does not forsake you. Give ear to my prayer, O God,
And do not hide Yourself from my supplication.
Attend to me, and hear me;
I am restless in my complaint, and moan noisily,
-Psalm 55: 1-2
God, I know there will be times when my faith is tested and I cannot feel you as near as I do right now. When those times come, I know that you will never leave or forsake me. Amen
